Driving Tips to Make Your Car Last Longer

Buying a car is an important purchase; probably as important as buying a house. Your vehicle can be one of your most expensive possessions. So, it’s essential to keep your car in good condition.  Bad driving can be a huge problem; it is not only dangerous but causes wear and tear as well. Here are a few things to remember to ensure that your car lasts longer.

Tip 1. Drive Slow and Steady:

American drivers tend to stay within an average speed of 65 mph to 70 mph (miles per hour). The maximum speed limit varies from state to state, with the maximum speed limit being 85 mph. The faster you drive the more gas you’ll burn. A fast car is also resistant to wind.  Slow down for speed bumps and potholes.

Tip 2. Do Not Rev a Cold Engine:

Don’t rev the engine for long, especially during winters as these can damage your car components.  Modern cars have an efficient engine system; you do not have to rev the car because they are designed to start immediately. Instead, use fuel filters that feature a self-venting drain valve to remove excess water in the engine for better performance. And remember to replace the oil to protect your engine.

Tip 3. Drive with A Full Tank:

Car runs smoother and faster with a full tank of gas. The engine requires air, fuel, and spark for proper internal combustion. Modern fuel pumps are designed to cool because of fuel. When running out of fuel, the engine may heat or wear out.

Tip 4. Unload Heavy Weights:

Do not carry heavy loads for no reason while traveling. The more you carry weight, the higher will be the fuel consumption. Every pound of extra weight can cause stress on the brake and other components and gradually decrease gas mileage.

Tip 5. Never Ignore Warning Signs:

Look for unusual noises, vibrations, occasional knocks, intermittent squeaks or other significant symptoms. You must immediately visit a car engine repair service to identify and resolve problem.
