3 Do's and Don’ts of Car Care

Car repair is expensive and time-consuming, but proper care can save you a lot of money down the line. Ignoring simple things like regular oil change, checking wheel alignment, etc. can cost you a lot of money, regarding money spent on repairs and loss of work days. Here are three simple things you should and shouldn’t do:

1. DO NOT select the cheapest Virginia Beach auto repair shop you find.

Sure, price shopping helps to save money. But a hiring a certified ASE technician can ensure that your car is in the right hands. Do not hire an unqualified mechanic or a rookie only to save a few dollars.

2. DO NOT ignore the Tire Pressure Monitoring System.

The TPMS light serves as a warning when one of your car tires is deflated. Flat tires can cause accidents that could sometimes be fatal. If the TPMS light is turned on while driving, pull over to a safe place and check if the tire is losing air.

3. DO NOT attempt DIY for repairs.

ASE technicians have to undergo a rigorous screening process before they are certified to conduct repairs. Do you honestly think that a few videos on YouTube can make you an expert on issues that the ASE technician has taken months to master?

1. DO change oil regularly.

Manufacturers recommend changing oil every 3000 miles. Some manufacturers recommend changing after 7800 miles. Read the owner’s manual and follow accordingly. Not changing the oil regularly may damage and reduce engine life.

2. DO keep your car clean.

The car isn’t a dumping ground. Clean the car regularly, including the interiors. Wash the car with specialized car wash liquid and not ordinary soap. These may have harmful chemicals that are likely to damage the car.

3. DO change the air filters regularly.

Changing the air filters is an easy job that you can do yourself. But if you’re not confident, come to us! We’ll help you. Changing the car’s air filter ensures that you reduce emissions and manage fuel efficiency.
