Take Good Care of Your Car: It's Not as Difficult as You Think

Do you want your vehicle to run right, last long and look good?  All it needs is a little TLC!

What is the Purpose of Regular Car Maintenance?

It's no mystery that regular maintenance ensures longevity! Case in point: Ever see a classic car and wonder how it managed to stay in mint condition after 20-30 years?  It's all thanks to regular maintenance from the vehicle's dedicated owner.

Here are a few tips that every car owner should follow.

1. Clean your car at least twice in a week

Use a vacuum cleaner to remove dust from the car’s interior. Use a car wash to clean the exterior and give it a brand-new look.

2. Change oil regularly

Remember to change oil frequently – especially after every 5,000 to 7,500 miles – to ensure that the engine functions optimally. The components within the engine are constantly moving and rubbing against each other creating heat; oil ensures that these parts remain lubricated.

Motor oil or engine oil acts as a lubricant for internal combustion. Manufacturers suggest that oils vary based on operating conditions. Different oils include conventional oil, premium conventional oil, full-synthetic oil, synthetic-blend oil and high-mileage oil.

3. Check your tire air pressure at least once in a month

When a tire is over inflated or under inflated, it loses brake controls causing it to wear out faster. Properly inflated tires balance the vehicle equally over the tire's tread design. As a result, it leads to long lasting tires, maximum traction, and safe driving. Before you plan a long drive, stop at Davis Car Care to check your vehicle’s tire air pressure monitoring system.

4. Replace brake pads after every 25,000 miles

Never ignore the screeching noise made by a brake. Brake pads can wear out quickly, depending on how frequently your drive. It also depends on the driving frequency, vehicle weight, and road condition.

5. Change air filter after every 30,000 miles of travel

A clean air filter is similar to our lungs; proper functioning is important. Dirt less air filter leads to increase in gas mileage and engine life, better acceleration, lower emissions and overall improved performance of the engine. Most of the air filters are inexpensive.

6. Balance the car’s engine temperature after every 15,000 miles

If you have been driving in temperatures of minus 20 degrees or 105 degrees, use an engine additive that runs your engine smoothly. Coolants are known as antifreeze is a liquid mixed with water in your vehicle. It helps to prevent the radiators from overheating or freezing.

7. Inspect spark plugs every 30,000 miles

The electrical device delivers a spark of light to ensure proper functioning of your vehicle. Without a spark plug, your car cannot start the engine. A weak or bad spark plug can result in loss of power, slow acceleration, engine failure, and gas leakage.
